Clear

Description

A good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory melissa hydrosol can be used alone or in mixtures as a skin clearer and to soothe rashes, irritation and eczema.

Add to your own lotions and creams for anti-aging and after-sun care. The aldehydes in the essential oil are thought to be responsible for their pronounced antiviral properties. The hydrosol contain at least some of these components due to the significant amount of essential oil present in the solution during distillation. Apply undiluted topically to herpes sores six to ten times a day, ideally as soon as you feel them coming on, and take one-half tablespoon internally at each application.

Melissa calms the body more than the mind, but is not overly depressing. Use it for stress, anxiety and hysteria in children. There are studies that have shown positive results in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and it is definitely worth trying instead of medications for people of any age. For children with ADHD, use thirty milliliters per liter of water; consume throughout the day. For adults, double the amount of hydrosol: sixty milliliters per liter of water.

During pregnancy, lemon balm can be used to relieve morning sickness, indigestion and fluid retention, and as a tonic for the general well-being system. Melissa is gentle enough for babies; try adding a teaspoon to a night bath or mix with German chamomile or Yarrow to ease the diaper rash (hydrosol greatly improves the aroma of yarrow). Melissa essential oil is often recommended for use during pregnancy, but the real thing is very expensive and hard to find, so use hydrosol.

After three weeks, lemon balm is a good preventive measure for the flu and allergy season and has immune-boosting and some infection-fighting properties. Melissa is a gentle cholagogue and has been used in digestive beverages for centuries; hydrosol definitely helps digestion and reduces intestinal cramps and spasms associated with colitis and Crohn’s disease. For some people, it has shown a laxative effect, so try it before using it for bowel disorders.

Delicious drink, hot or cold. Perfect for all recipes, whether they’re sweet or savory. Try steaming vegetables or fish dishes – delicious.
